The rain out on Friday gave me time to reflect on the first few games of the 2012 Connecticut Tigers season.
-Connecticutscored nine runs in it’s three loses this season and 11 runs in the only win at Lowell on June 19. The Tigers rank 11th in the NYPL with a team batting average of .222
-The Tigers pitching staff is last in the Penn League with a 6.69 ERA.
-IF Edgar Corcino leads the Tigers with a .357 batting average (5-14).
-With the rainout on Friday, the Tigers will use a spot-starter in game two of the doubleheader against Tri-City tonight. RHP Tim Kelley, who was a starting pitcher in college at Wichita State University and already pitched 3.2 innings againstLowellon June 19, will take the ball for game two.
The unfortunate part of last night’s rainout is that there will be no opportunity to make up the fireworks scheduled after the game. The next “Fireworks Friday” is July 13 when the Tigers take on the Brooklyn Cyclones, the NYPL affiliate of the Mets, at 7:05 p.m.
The Tigers staff is already at work getting ready for a spectacular Saturday at Dodd Stadium. The Tigers will continue the 2012 magnet schedule give away brought to you by Life Star/Hartford Hospital tonight to all fans in attendance. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will also receive a 2012-2013 Connecticut Tigers calendar.
I hope to see you at Dodd. If you can’t make it, I’ll be on the air for both games of the DH beginning at 5:50 on 1310 in Southeast CT and online through the “Listen Live” link.
