Cal Ripken World Series

The Tigers are here in Aberdeen, MD ready to start a three-game series with the Aberdeen IronBirds tonight. Aberdeen is about 40 miles north of Baltimore and is known for the Aberdeen Proving Grounds where the U.S. Army has a huge presence in the area.

This time of year it is also known for one more thing: the Cal Ripken World Series. The opening ceremonies will be tonight. There will be a community carnival and concerts and plenty of other events. The whole plaza around Ripken Stadium in Aberdeen is full of hotels and all of the hotels are full with youth teams from around the world so the Tigers are staying down the street.

The northeast region winner is from Newtown and will be playing here in Aberdeen over the week. Here’s hoping the team from Connecticut will make some noise here at the Cal Ripken World Series.

Pre-game coverage starts at 6:50 p.m. on AM 1310 WICH.
