Stewart

The Tigers split a doubleheader in Burlington, Vermont last night and today the Tigers start a three-game series with the Tri-City ValleyCats in Troy, NY.

The Tigers played two long games in last night’s twin bill: (2:17 in game one) and (2:13 in game two). The Tigers received two new players before the doubleheader, including OF Jake Stewart (shown above), the 9th round pick from Stanford University.

Stewart played in game one of the doubleheader and led off the game by swinging on the first pitch he saw and hitting a sharp ground ball to the short stop. He showed some raw ability by diving and almost making a catch on a line drive to center field by Vermont 2B Chris Bostick in the first inning.

Manager Andrew Graham told me that Stewart will lead off and play center field every day. He’s a highly touted pick and from a great athletic family. His dad Jesse played in the minor leagues and he’s logged time in the Cape with Orleans last year and with the Alaska Goldpanners in the summer of 2010. He hit .294 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 48 games played for Stanford this spring.

Tigers fans are already going to like watching this guy play. I know I already do.
